The worlds in which he escapes to are slowly collapsing on him and he facing some of the most difficult challenges of his life.

During a California wildfire sometime in the dystopian future, Casey, a recent college graduate and disaster volunteer, finds Milagros Buenavera, a lone survivor in her hoarder mother's house. Eager to report survivors to the government, Casey becomes entrapped in Milagro's dark reality, and she fights to get out. Milagros, a long sufferer of her mother's dysfunction and poor choices, is trying to find meaning in her life amidst the tragedy..

Fired from his job at NASA, David comes home to his long-suffering wife, Mary, who has recently endured a devastating medical emergency. Their already strained relationship is further complicated by Mary's younger brother, Caleb, who has special needs and requires around the clock care. What appears to be the worst day of their lives turns out to be a stroke of luck for David, a unique lottery that will give him a chance to travel to the moon. With the odds stacked against him, David tests the bounds of sanity and morality (and his marriage) to win a ticket.

Relying on the new age advice of Oprah Winfrey, she finds meaning and resolution in her flaws.
